Five Senses Winter Poetry Booklet

-Students write a 5 senses poem about Winter (any season works!) -Make up an 8 paged mini booklet with only one piece of A4 paper Booklet instructions: -On each page write one line from the poem & illustrate. My example: Winter I feel the cold wind blowing on my face. I smell the hint of rain in the air. I taste the raindrops as they fall from the sky. I see the little boy splashing in the puddles. I hear the thunder rumbling up above. *I'll keep my copy in my Relief Folder just in case I need to show a class an example.

Spelling Sparkle: Teacher calls out a spelling word. Students stand in a circle and each student says one letter of the word. After the last letter of the word is said the next student says "Sparkle" & sits down. If a student misses a letter or is incorrect they also sit down. The teacher then gives them another word. Play continues until the last man is standing. Maths Sparkle: Play is the same except teacher calls out a different number to skip count by & to what number. (eg: count by 5's to 60, count by 3's to 36, or for junior years simply count to 10 or 20)

Giraffes Can’t Dance

A picture book that highlights how everyone is different, with their own strengths & weaknesses, and the importance of being true to yourself & respecting other's rights to be different. Activity Ideas: - Make giraffe hats - Use the dancing giraffe template to make a giraffe with moving limbs. - In small groups come up with an animal dance to show the rest of the class (eg - giraffe dance, elephant dance, lion dance, monkey dance). - Warthogs waltzing is an example of alliteration. Can they come up with other animal alliterations? - Reread the story & write a list of the rhyming words. Brainstorm other rhyming words to add to the list. - Retell the story from Gerald the giraffe's point of view. - Design a poster advertising the Jungle Dance.
